This week we compare two legendary American muscle machines, the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. Which of these automotive icons do YOU prefer?
Well, even if you can’t make up your mind you should totally vote in our latest poll. Would you do us a solid and just click on one of the cars below?
Anyway, let’s start with the Ford, which, back in the day, was introduced a couple years before its bow-tie rival. In non-special-edition trim the Mustang is available with three different engines ranging from a base V6 to an EcoBoost four-cylinder to a fire-breathing 5.0-liter V8.
And that last option is the one you really want. It delivers 435 horses and 400 lb-ft of torque, stout numbers to be certain. Power is sent to the ‘Stang’s rear tires through either a manual or automatic transmission, both of which have six ratios.
Likewise, Chevy’s offering is available with three different engines. The base unit is a turbo four, but stepping up from there you can also get a muscular V6. However, like in the Ford, the premiere engine has two banks of four cylinders.
“Special” models notwithstanding, the Camaro’s top powertrain offering is a 6.2-liter small block V8. With features like variable valve timing and direct fuel injection it puts out some pretty heroic numbers, 455 units of both horsepower and torque. A six-speed manual gearbox is on the menu, as is a technologically advanced eight-ratio automatic.
So, there you go, that covers the important basics about each of these legendary performance cars. Have you made up your mind yet? Can you pick a favorite? If so, please vote down below and let your voice be heard! If not, you can compare them here and learn even more about each one.
