Which of these German sports cars would you rather park in your driveway? The Audi TT and BMW Z4 use different strategies to deliver driving pleasure.
Starting alphabetically, the Audi in this head-to-head tossup features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It puts out 220 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, decent if uninspiring numbers. Still, these figures are stout enough to propel this tiny pumpkin seed to 60 miles an hour in as little as 5.3 seconds. Traction-enhancing quattro all-wheel drive is standard.
The BMW Z4’s base engine also displaces 2.0-liters but it’s a bit more muscular than the one under its rival’s hood. This unit puts out 240 horses and 255 lb-ft of twist. An six-speed manual gearbox is available but an eight-ratio automatic is also on the menu. According the BMW, a base Z4 can hit mile-a-minute velocity in just 5.4 seconds when equipped with the self-shifting gearbox.
