Which would YOU rather, an Aston Martin DB11 or Mercedes-AMG GT S?
The ability to comfortably afford either of these fine machines is a happy problem to have! The unwashed motoring masses (read: us normal folks) would be tickled pink with either one, but which exotic is a better all-around choice?
The Aston Martin features an absolutely lusty 5.2-liter V12 engine. With a turbocharger strapped to each cylinder head it delivers 600 silky-smooth horses with 516 lb-ft of torque. All that juicy goodness is routed to the rear wheels through a responsive eight-speed automatic transmission that, depending on your mood, can seamlessly slur upshifts or bang through the gears in the blink of an eye.
From a standstill, pressing and holding the accelerator will rocket the DB11 to mile-a-minute velocity in less than four seconds. Top speed is a suitably speedy 200 miles an hour. As grand-touring cars go, this British beast is tough to beat.
As for the GT S coupe, it’s motivated by a 4.0-liter two-by-four (read: a V8). Like its English rival, this handcrafted engine is turbocharged, delivering 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of twist. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission handles shifting duties.
This drivetrain combination writes a check for 193 miles an hour, the speed at which this car is electronically restricted. The blitz to 60 can be accomplished in as little as 3.7 seconds.
Performance wise, these two cars are quite evenly matched. They’re also both beautiful to look at and tons of fun to drive. Pricing is one of the only major areas where they diverge. The Mercedes-AMG GT S starts at around $132,000 but the DB11 is more than 80 grand richer. For that money, you could buy an Audi S7!
Is Aston’s arguably more exclusive offering worth the extra outlay? That’s your job to you to decide! For more information on these cars, please click here, and don’t forget to vote in our latest poll!
