When Chevy‘s new fire breathing Camaro Z/28 launches, it will likely be packing a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 under the hood.
A spy video helped to confirm that the Z/28 won’t be supercharged based on the noise coming from the prototype, but now is reporting that the car will use a 7.0-liter V8 making somewhere between 540 and 565 horsepower. The previous Camaro Z/28 also used a 7.0-liter V8 known as the LS7, a name that is likely to be changed to LT7 for the new car.
Chevrolet could turn to its supercharged V8 or even a twin-turbo V6 for the Z/28, but the brass inside GM know that this Camaro needs a special engine that is on par with the Shelby Mustang GT350’s 5.2-liter V8 which makes 526 hp.
Direct injection, new cylinder heads and other modifications will help the newly named LT7 gain that extra 50 or so hp over the old LT7.
