After getting a ground-up redesign for 2018, the new Chevrolet Traverse also gets a new price.

Jumping $1,280 compared to the Traverse’s 2017 entry price, interested parties will be asked to shell out $30,875 (including destination) for a base trim 2018, with prices ranging all the way past $50,000 for a top-shelf High Country derivative.

The new crossover is roomier and represents a large leap forward in comfort and content compared to the nine-year-old model it replaces. From a tech standpoint, the 2018 Traverse brings active noise canceling, many USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, surround-view vision, lane-keep assist, pedestrian braking, forward collision alert, automatic braking and teen driver controls.

Chevy says the eight-seat Traverse offers more passenger and cargo capacity than Ford’s Explorer, Honda’s Pilot and Toyota’s Highlander, largely thanks to its 120.9-inch wheelbase, which dwarfs the contenders by almost a full foot and keeps third-row occupants from being positioned right over the rear wheels.

Shoppers will be offered the choice of six different trims, for now: L ($30,875), LS ($32,995), LT Cloth ($35,495), LT Leather ($42,095), Premier ($45,395) and High Country ($52,995).

All trims will come with GM’s trusty 3.6-liter V6, which will make 305 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, routed through a nine-speed automatic. All-wheel drive is optional on LS, LT Cloth and LT Leather trims for $3,800, while Premier buyers will be asked for a further $2,900 to drive all four wheels. AWD is standard on High Country models.

Later this year, Chevy is expected to add a sportier RS trim, which will source motivation from a 2.0-liter turbo four making 255 horsepower and drive the front wheels only. There will also be different suspension tuning and dark trim to set it apart from  Traversing, however, pricing details remain unannounced.

If you have some time to kill today, Chevrolet has also opened up the 2018 Traverse’s online configurator.
