The next Mercedes-Benz EQ Concept will be a hatchback, set to debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

reports the new concept is currently being built at Mercedes-Benz’s in-house prototype workshop near its headquarters, and it will preview an entry-level EQ A model that is scheduled to go on sale in 2020. Expect the EQ A to be a direct competitor to the BMW i3, and it is one of 10 new electric vehicles Mercedes-Benz is working on. The German automaker previewed the EQ C SUV already with a concept, and recent trademark applications suggest the lineup will include EQ E and EQ S models.

Like Mercedes-Benz’s current compact cars, the EQ A will serve as a volume seller for the brand and should have a price tag around $35,000 if it makes its way to the U.S. It will also serve an important role in the future of parent company Daimler’s Car-To-Go car-sharing division.

The EQ A hatchback will ride on Mercedes-Benz’s new modular electric architecture (MEA) and should follow in the footsteps of the EQ C in terms of styling. It’s still unclear what sort of powertrain Mercedes will use for its entry-level electric car.
