The Lamborghini Huracan Performante is officially the world’s fastest production car around the Nurburgring.
With a 6:52.01 lap time, the Huracan Performante bested the Porsche 918 Spyder by nearly five seconds (6:57), proving a supercar doesn’t need fancy electric motors to set records. This isn’t the first Lamborghini to run the lap in under seven minutes, as the Aventador LP750-4 SV did it in 6:59.73. But the Huracan Performante is likely lighter and more nimble around the track, but we won’t know the full details until the car debuts at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show next week. Rumor has it the naturally-aspirated V10 engine produces around 630 horsepower, which is quite a bit less than the 740-hp Aventador SV.

So far the Italian automaker has shown off active aerodynamics on the Huracan Performante, but has kept it heavily camouflaged in the teaser videos. But Lamborghini just couldn’t wait until the car’s unveiling to share the in-car video of the record-setting lap time with Lamborghini test driver Marco Mapelli behind the wheel.
Check back with next week for full coverage of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show where we will be sure to share all the details on the new hardcore Huracan variant.
