Is the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Making a Surprise Appearance this Weekend?

Photos have leaked of a covered Chevrolet Corvette riding solo in an airplane.

First reported by , the photos show what appears to be the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 under a car cover and strapped inside a plane. It is said that the Corvette was the only occupant in a 747 flight to Europe, and another photo of the rear shows an angled exhaust, typically done to limit sound decibels for certain tracks. This isn’t the first time we’ve had reports of the Corvette ZR1 being too loud for certain tracks, with spy photographers catching a ZR1 prototype testing near the Nurburgring with a modified exhaust at an angle. Race cars often have to do this to compete at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in the U.S.

Now while there has already been a Corvette ZR1 prototype testing on the Nurburgring, this one is a bit different. The lower rear fascia of the car in the plane is covered in camouflage instead of being flat black, and it’s sporting different wheels.

The timing of the shipment makes it interesting. While Chevrolet could have various reasons on why it expedited a single Corvette by air to Europe, the one that makes the most sense is this weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans race. It wouldn’t be a surprise that Chevrolet would have the car on hand at one of the world’s most famous races, even if it’s heavily camouflaged.

The good thing is we don’t have to wait very long to find out where it’s heading, because if it makes an appearance at Le Mans, we’ll know this weekend. And if it doesn’t, it’s likely our spy photographers will catch this prototype testing at the Nurburgring.
