A concept for Infiniti’s large SUV will be debuting at next week’s New York Auto Show, but the Japanese automaker decided to give us a preview.

Officially called the Infiniti QX80 Monograph, the concept was cooked up at the automaker’s design studio in Atsugi, Japan, with the goal of previewing a futuristic vision of the brand’s luxury SUV nameplate.

“The QX80 Monograph represents a detailed study into our expertise of exterior design,” said Roland Krueger, President of Infiniti. “QX80 Monograph shows our concept of luxury and style on the road, and is an exploration into how we could enhance our future Infiniti offering in the luxury SUV segment.”

Featuring cues from the new Infiniti design language evolved from the Q60 and upcoming QX50, this QX80 Monograph sports a taller and wider double-arch grille, while the D-pillar has also been reshaped.

Some are speculating that the Monograph name is a clue that Infiniti will be making a top tier luxury brand for its models separate from the special Signature Edition models, but we’ll have to wait for its full debut in New York next week for more details.
