American Honda has revealed that it’ll be restructuring its U.S. operations to help further differentiate the Honda and Acura brands.

The new structure will be effective starting April 1 and will have Honda and Acura splitting into separate divisions for marketing and sales purposes. Along with the division split, several executives will be assigned new positions with John Mendel retaining responsibility of the overall American sales operations with a new title of executive vice president of the automobile sales division.

For the two automakers, “The goal is to accelerate the already strong sales growth of both the Honda and Acura brands through a more cohesive strategy that we think will bring even greater focus to the unique needs of our Honda and Acura customers,” said Mendel.

Mike Accavitti will become senior vice president and general manager of the Acura division while Jeff Conrad will be named the same position for the Honda division. The change also hopes to help clear up Acura’s role in today’s marketplace as it gets ready to launch the new TLX.
