General Motors is recalling about 1.04 million pickup trucks over an issue with the seatbelts.
Both the 2014- 2015 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 are being brought back in to dealers as the flexible steel cable that attaches the seatbelt to the vehicle can seperate over time. This is a result of the driver repeatedly bending the cable when entering the truck.
A stop-sale has been placed on about 3,000 trucks that need to be repaired before they can be sold, while the total population of affected trucks in the U.S. is 895,232. GM says that the recall was prompted by warranty data, and that the recall “is not expected to be significant and is covered within normal and customary warranty reserves.”

To correct the issue, GM dealers will make the side shield opening larger and install a new bracket on the tensioner. If neccessary, the dealership will replace the entire tensioner assembly.
No crashes or injuries have been reported as a result of this issue.
