BMW is looking to add two more doors to its 2 Series coupe.
BMW changed its nomenclature to reflect the body styles of its models, with even-numbered vehicles being two-door coupes and odd-numbered vehicles representing four-door sedans. But then things got weird when the 4 Series Gran Coupe and 6 Series Gran Coupe models were added, which were essentially four-door versions of the 4 Series and 6 Series. But in BMW’s eyes, those are four-door coupes, which are different than traditional sedans.
Now, the 2 Series is reportedly getting the same treatment, with a 2 Series Gran Coupe in the works that will spawn an M2 Gran Coupe for those who love the M2 but wish it had four doors.

It’s not a surprising move considering the BMW M2 Gran Coupe would be the ideal competitor to the Audi RS3 and Mercedes-AMG CLA 45. The M2 Gran Coupe will be a bit different than its competitors however, as it will use a rear-wheel-drive setup rather than the all-wheel drive found on the RS3 and CLA 45.
The next-generation BMW 3 Series is expected to grow in size, making room for a 2 Series Gran Coupe model in the lineup. Expect to see the 2 Series Gran Coupe to be introduced in 2019.
