To little surprise, the winning bidder was none other than Rick Hendrick.

The first 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE crossed the auction block at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach, with Hendrick bidding $250,000 to claim VIN 001. The owner of Hendrick Motorsports has a history of purchasing “first-of” auctions from Chevrolet, but he isn’t entirely preferential since he also did get his hands on the first production Acura NSX. All of Hendrick’s winning bid of $250,000 is going to benefit The United Way charity, like most first-production General Motors vehicles.

The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE features a supercharged V8 engine sporting 650 horsepower, paired to a six-speed manual transmission. With more aggressive styling on the exterior, including a large rear spoiler, front splitter and enlarged grille openings, it’s a track-focused model and also comes standard with 19-inch wheels wrapped with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires.

The $250,000 sum is the same Hendrick paid in 2011 for the first production Camaro ZL1 at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas.
