The 2016 Chevrolet Cruze isn’t quite grown up, but it’s getting there. To test that theory we took it through a whole day of adult-ish behavior, mostly binging on our favorite things because we’re grown up enough to deal with the consequences.
Our vice to exercise this fine day is delicious ice cream. Gelato too, because we’re fancy like that. Call it an ice cream crawl, or gelato-jump. Whatever it is, it’s going to be fun, filling and full of brain freeze. The new Chevrolet Cruze will be our chaperone for the whole ordeal, with its 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and an honest to goodness six-speed manual. Our bow-tied buddy also has a 4G-LTE internet connection thanks to OnStar, so we’ll be live-blogging the whole thing. Follow along with our Managing Editor Jodi Lai @DrivingMissJodi and Features Editor Sami Haj-Assaad @Sami_HA and join in on the fun by tweeting us with #icecreamcruze and #maturish!

Aannd that’s all the ice cream fun we can have in a day. We hit up about 5 places by the end of the day, which is much more than we had anticipated. We also brought lots of iced desserts back to the office, which was greatly appreciated. As for the Cruze, it looks as appetizing as three scoops of rocky road in a waffle cone, but drives sluggish… like a pair of editors who have been inhaling ice cream since lunch time. The manual transmission and 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine are both a bit furstrating to use, and the interior we had in our model was offputting to say the least.
At least it was rugged and durable to put up with our sugar highs. Steering and comfort was also about average. For more details on the Cruze, be sure to watch our full video review of the new compact. Thanks for following along!
