General Motors has announced its fifth recall in the last two weeks, with the company calling back both 2014 Chevy Malibu and Buick Lacrosse models.
In total, 8,208 cars are being recalled over issues with the front brake assembly. The problem is that rear brake rotors have been installed in the front brake assembly, which can cause “possible reduced braking performance,” says GM. Not only will it wear the pads down unevenly, this mixup can cause reduced brake pressure.
Only about 1,700 of the affected cars have been sold, while the rest are still in the hands of the dealers. The fix should be a quick one, and GM says that it only expects a small percentage of the 8,208 cars to have the wrong rotors on the front. A stop order has been issued as of May 1 on both cars until the issue is resolved.
This brings GM’s recall total to 5.4 million vehicles this year, as GM CEO Mary Barra has promised more diligence when it comes to safety after faulty ignition switches have been linked to 13 deaths.
