The Chevrolet Camaro looks slated to receive the seven-speed manual transmission from the C7 Corvette for the 2019 model year.
A California Air Resources Board document discovered by lists the available powertrain options for the Camaro and Corvette for 2019. Both vehicles will retain the 6.2-liter Small Block V8 for 2019, of course, but interestingly, it seems as though the Camaro will be available with both the seven-speed manual from the Corvette, in addition to its existing six-speed manual.
It’s also interesting to note the Camaro only has 1 6.2-liter engine listed, which could indicate the end of production of the 650 hp ZL1. The Corvette has two versions of the 6.2-liter engine listed for 2019 – likely the 6.2-liter base car and the 6.2-liter LT5-powered ZR1. These documents are sometimes subject to change, but it gives us an interesting window into GM’s plans for the Corvette and Camaro for 2019.

The arrival of the seven-speed manual in the Camaro may be indication of a new model variant. It’s also possible GM is looking to meet increasingly strict emissions regulations and is using the triple-overdrive transmission to help make its muscle car a bit more efficient.
