Buick Verano GS Hatchback Spied Testing in the US

Buick might be bringing a hot hatch to the U.S. after all.

The Buick Verano hatchback and GS models debuted late last year at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China, and at the time, there was no indication that they would be heading to the U.S. anytime soon.

But now spy photographers have caught the GS five-door hatchback testing at General Motors’ Proving Grounds in Milford, Michigan, suggesting that the automaker could be bringing it stateside. The Verano GS is essentially a rebadged Opel Astra, but featuring Buick’s front end, waterfall grille and badging.

The American automaker has said that the second-generation Verano sedan has been axed from its product plans in the U.S., so it’s a strong possibility it is considering bringing the hatchback over so that the Verano nameplate can live on.

This is the first time spy photographers have caught the Verano GS hatchback testing in North America, so keep a close eye to see if it makes another appearance.
