The MINI Cooper and Fiat 500 may soon have a rival in the U.S., but it won’t be a from another European automaker… or will it?
Why the confusion? Because General Motors is seriously considering selling a tiny Buick on our shores. And while Buick certainly isn’t an import, the car that will be re-badged for the purpose comes from Opel – GM’s European division.
No decision has been made yet to bring over the Opel Adam, but it’s clear that GM has a strong desire to sync up Opel and Buick so that similar vehicles can be sold globally under different brands.

It’s a strategy that GM is already employing, with as the Buick Encore being sold as the Opel Mokka in Europe. GM is now redoubling its efforts to co-develop Buick and Opel models in order to take advantage of their engineering and design resources.
If the Adam does find its way to America however, it won’t be any time soon since the current generation Adam won’t meet U.S. safety and regulatory requirements.
