The 2013 Buick Encore has earned top safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and near top marks from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety.
From the IIHS, the Encore gets a Top Safety Pick rating, which means it scored top marks in four out of five crash tests.
The fifth test, which is the new small-overlap crash test, proved to be tough for the Encore however (see video below). Buick’s little SUV received the lowest possible rating in that test, but because it is a new addition to the test roster, marks from the overlap test are not included in the Top Safety Pick designation. If the Encore had of performed well in that test, it would have received a “Top Safety Pick Plus” rating.

A five-star safety rating was also handed to the Encore from NHTSA, which tests rollover strength, front impact crashes, side pole impacts and more.
Buick boasts that for safety, the Encore has 10 standard airbags, forward collision alert, lane departure warning, panic brake override, electronic stability control, and a collapsible pedal system that reduces the risk of leg injury, among others.
