Spy photographers have caught the new BMW X2 on camera.

The German automaker previewed the upcoming compact crossover with the X2 Concept at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, sporting coupe-inspired styling. BMW has been testing prototypes all year long, giving us a good look at the sloping roofline and small side windows. The latest set of spy photos doesn’t reveal any more details, but there is a bit of camouflage being shed from its body.

Designed to slot between the existing X1 and X3 models, the BMW X2 will ride on a front-wheel-drive platform like the X1. But expect xDrive all-wheel drive to be available as an option.

Although heavily camouflaged, we can also see that the rear tail lights are similar to the ones shown on the concept in Paris. The overall shape is mostly unchanged, but don’t expect to see the aggressive and sporty front end of the concept make its way to production.

The production BMW X2 should make its debut sometime next year before heading to dealerships as a 2018 model.
