In a bid to leave no sliver of whitespace unoccupied BMW is rumored to be developing an electric crossover vehicle to challenge Tesla’s upcoming Model X.
BMW Developing Electric Crossover
Rumor has it this yet-unannounced utility is still waiting approval by the company’s board. However if it gets the green-light it would likely be assembled at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. This facility is home to almost all of the firm’s crossover lineup including the X3, X4, X5 and X6 models.

This mystery electric utility vehicle would almost certainly be part of the company’s eco-friendly i-lineup, which includes the i3 and i8 models, both of which are built in Leipzig, Germany. What number the vehicle would be christened with is anybody’s guess.
Rival luxury automaker Audi is currently developing a similar product. Their all-electric Q8 SUV is scheduled to arrive in 2019 and should be a logical rival to this Bimmer.
It’s unlikely BMW’s electron-powered crossover could enter production before 2018. Naturally a company spokesman said all of this is “speculation.” But come on, what else do you expect him to say?
