Audi SQ2 Caught Testing at the Nurburgring

The test department over at Audi has been awfully busy this week. Just yesterday we saw pictures of the new A8 testing at the Nurburgring, and now our photographers have caught them testing the sporty SQ2 at the “Green Hell.”

Audi’s test department have been so busy, in fact, that they forgot to put camouflage on the SQ2, a hotter version of the Q2 that hasn’t even hit showrooms yet.

The Q2 will be smallest SUV in the Audi lineup, and is aimed at a younger demographic with its small stature and smaller price tag. Thanks to its diminutive size, though, the car will presumably weigh less than the rest of the Q range and is therefore a prime candidate for attention from Audi’s performance department.

Enter the SQ2, with its four tail pipes and added air intakes, this version looks sportier than the Q2 and rumor has it that Audi will be shoehorning in the 2.0L turbo engine from the S3. That should give it a healthy 306hp, which is expected to be delivered to the road through all four wheels (unlike the FWD base Q2).

Finish it all off with some bigger wheels, brakes, and sills and you have all the ingredients for a pretty tasty little SUV.

The Q2 is arriving in Europe later this year, but, sadly, you shouldn’t expect to see the SQ2 before 2018.
