Audi is spending its time at the Nurburgring putting the next-generation S7 to the test.

Spy photographers have already caught the new Audi A7 testing in early August, but they have recently managed to get much closer shots of the high-performance S7 making its rounds on the Nurburgring.

Like the A7, the S7 will be inspired by the Prologue concept that debuted at the 2014 L.A. Auto Show. In addition, we can see hints that the next S7 will pack some serious performance, with massive brakes and a quad exhaust setup that fills out the rear bumper nicely.

Expect the new A7 and S7 models to shed a bit of weight because they will be built on the company’s MLB Evo platform that is already underpinning the Q7. The big question is what powerplant Audi will use, since the Porsche Panamera 4S introduced a new 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with 440 horsepower that could also be a candidate for the S7. That also means it might not feature a V8, another sign of automakers downsizing with the help of forced induction.

Expect more details on the next A7 and S7 to come before they make their debut sometime late next year.
