Audi is reportedly working on a baby R8 model that will sport the R6 nameplate.
Rumors of an Audi R6 have been circulating ever since the German automaker filed a trademark for the R6 nameplate in 2012 and now Germany’s reports Audi will use the Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman chassis for the new mid-engine sports cars.
Expected to slot between the TT and flagship R8, the R6 will likely borrow design elements from the Audi Sport Quattro (seen above) that bowed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Although the concept featured a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood, the R6 name hints that Audi will use a six-cylinder engine

If the model does finally come to fruition, expect it to feature Audi’s signature quattro all-wheel-drive system and serve as a Porsche Cayman rival of sorts.
