Audi has plans to build an electric version of its Q5 SUV in new Mexico plant.
On September 30 of this year, Audi will inaugurate a new plant in San Jose Chiapa, Mexico where it will build the next-generation Q5 SUV model. According to report by , an electric sibling to the standard Q5 will also be made there.
cites two anonymous sources who say that the German automaker is already training personnel for production. The San Jose Chiapa plant will be able to manufacture a total of 150,000 units year, according to sources.

No news yet on when the electric Q5 will arrive in showrooms but the sources did say it would be in the “near term”.
The next-generation Q5 is expected to arrive as a 2018 model and will be built exclusively at the Mexico plant. The model will ride on the Volkswagen Group’s lightweight MLB architecture first introduced on the new Audi A4.
