Now that Audi has its foot in the laser door, it wants to offer laser lights on all R8 V10 Pluses.
The futuristic technology first appeared on the R8 exclusive edition, which, as the name suggests, was not available to every R8-buying Tom, Dick, or Harry.
Only 25 of those were made, in part because of how hard it is to get governmental permission to sell laser light equipped vehicles in America.
That’s due to the fact that not only do the usual automotive watchdogs have to give laser lights their approval, so too does the Food an Drug Administration because of the small amounts of radiation that lasers emit.
With the first laser lights now in America, though, Audi has gotten the FDA’s seal of approval to fit laser lights to all of its 2018 R8 V10 Pluses.

Lasers aren’t the only addition to the 2018 model. All R8s (not just the plus) will now come standard with Audi smartphone interface, and a new Black optic package (gloss black 20” 10-spoke Y design wheels, glass black exhaust tips, Mythos black sideblade and trim) is also available.
The 2018 V10 model (as opposed to V10 plus), meanwhile, will come with standard Anthracite high gloss inlays (instead of matte), standard 19” 5-double-spoke wheels in silver, an Audi Sport badge on the grille and Audi Sport puddle light.
The 2018 R8 hits dealerships this summer.
