The all-new 2017 Subaru Levorg has launched in Australia with a starting price of $42,990 (before on-road costs) for the base GT model, and $52,890 (before on-road costs) for the top of the range GT-S Spec B.
All three Subaru Levorg variants are powered by the same engine and drivetrain as the current WRX – a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 197kW of power and 350Nm of torque coupled to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). It can get from 0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds, just three-tenths of a second slower than the automatic WRX.
The new 2017 model-year Subaru Levorg harks back to the 1990s Liberty RS Turbo wagon – a cult car by today’s standards. In terms of size, the Levorg is within 100mm of the fourth-generation Liberty GT wagon – the most popular of all Liberty models to date.
But despite Subaru’s comparisons to the Liberty, in essence the Levorg is a WRX wagon. It’s based on the soon-to-be replaced current-generation Impreza platform, and takes a great deal of the WRX’s mechanical and technical setup.
Subaru, however, says it has the handling of a WRX, with the ride comfort of a Liberty. The company expects to sell 200-300 units per month.
Subaru claims the Levorg is not just a WRX or Liberty wagon, but its own ‘innovative tourer concept’ that is completely suitable for the SUV-loving Australian market.
Highlights of the base GT include Subaru’s third-generation EyeSight active safety system, comprising forward-collision warning with brake and steering assist, along with active cruise control. Other features include 18-inch alloy wheels, a 6.2-inch touchscreen (sans navigation), a rear-view camera, numerous USB ports, a smart key, and Subaru’s SI-Drive drive mode selector.
Starting at $48,990 (before on-road costs), the mid-spec Levorg GT-S adds, among other things, harder-riding Bilstein suspension for better handling, a sunroof, leather-trimmed and heated sport seats with contrasting blue stitching, a 7-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, rear vehicle detection with blind-spot detection, lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and unique 18-inch alloy wheels.
Subaru Levorg 2.0GT-S 201An extra $4000 on top of the GT-S gets you the ‘Spec B’ package, which adds a range of STI parts for visual enhancements, as well as a strut tower bar for improved steering response.
All models have a three-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.
