Acura unveiled its second-generation NSX hybrid sports car this week in Detroit with relatively few details about performance.
The company confirmed that the car’s powertrain – a twin-turbo V6 combined with a three electric motor hybrid system – will generate more than 550 hp without confirming specific output. But during a roundtable discussion, NSX chief engineer Ted Klaus said the car is designed so that Acura will be able to create more powerful versions.

Klaus didn’t confirm plans for a Type R variant, but Honda has offered an NSX Type R in the past. Sharper, more powerful variants could help Acura feed demand once the initial car has been on sale for a couple of years.
Acura didn’t announce pricing for the NSX during its press conference, but a company source told that the car will cost roughly $150,000 when it goes on sale.
