The 2019 Ram 1500 has been spied with even less camouflage ahead of its expected debut in Detroit in January.

The updated Ram 1500 will benefit from a heavily redesigned exterior and interior, a slightly revised powertrain lineup, and some additional technology. It’s expected to retain the steel-intensive platform the current truck rides on, but like the recently unveiled Jeep Wrangler JL, we could see it shedding some pounds by using aluminum in the hood, doors and elsewhere.

Exterior styling changes for this updated Ram include a Chevrolet-like front grille flanked by modern-looking LED headlamps, a slightly smoothed over side profile and a redesigned tailgate with all-new taillights that can be seen for the first time in the gallery above. Previous spy images have also revealed this updated Ram will be available with a tailgate that folds down to open and also splits to open like fridge doors. 2019 Ram 1500 Shows us a Little More Ahead of Detroit Debut

Inside, some versions of this updated pickup will receive a huge center stack display, which sits above some new, high-end looking metal toggle switches. The gear selector is a dash-mounted rotary dial, which frees up some space in the center console for a storage cubby, cup holders and the armrest. Previous spy images also show an all-new steering wheel and a digital dash layout.

Under the hood of the new Ram will be the same 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 5.7-liter HEMI V8 as the current truck, while the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 should return as well. There’s also been rumors of a hybrid ram with FCA’s new 2.0-liter turbo four under the hood, though we highly doubt it will be available from launch.

Look for the updated Ram 1500 to arrive at dealerships sometime in 2018.
