2019 Chevrolet Trax
Starting Price: $22,195 |
Above Average: Advanced driver safety and assistance, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come at the entry level, peppy and fun to drive, optional all-wheel drive
Below Average: Low resale value, higher ownership costs, so-so fuel economy
Consensus: The 2019 Chevrolet Trax takes the efficiency and affordability of a subcompact car and puts it in a subcompact SUV format.
2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
Starting Price: $21,825 |
Above Average: Unique styling, 10-year/100,000-mile warranty, tons of features
Below Average: Poor resale value, small dealer network can make getting service tricky, not nearly as advanced driver-assistance systems
Consensus: The 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a pretty good 5-passenger, compact SUV that’s not commonplace.
The 2019 Chevrolet Trax is a fun-to-drive subcompact SUV packed with solid technology and driver safety and assistance packages. On the road it feels nimble, and the front seats are comfortable for long weekend jaunts. While it’s not super quiet at highway speeds, it’s quiet enough to have phone conversations via Bluetooth. The Trax also comes with built in 4G LTE wi-fi in case your passengers want to surf the web while you drive. Inside, the Trax is modern and attractive with ample room for passengers and their cargo. The 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a small SUV that you won’t see everywhere: Mitsubishi has a small dealer network and there aren’t a ton of their vehicles on the road. The 2019 Mitsubishi Sport is a carryover from 2018, and upper trims offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Mitsubishi also offers a pretty good optional AWD system on its higher trims. Where the Outlander Sport falls down, however, is in the driver assistance department. At the base level, Mitsubishi doesn’t offer things like lane-departure warning, collision mitigation, and high-beam assist as standard and in fact, only offers them on the highest trim. The Outlander Sport also struggles because the platform it is built on is relatively old, having not been updated since 2011. If you do spring for the 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, step up to the 2.4-liter engine offered on the SE and SEL trims for better performance.
2019 Chevrolet Trax Advantages

2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Advantages
Amazing warranty, affordable, unique styling, comes with a manual transmission.
Final Recommendation
In this head-to-head comparison, the Chevrolet Trax is the better buy. It’s fun to drive, well behaved on the road, and offers a suite of technology features that can make a commute or a long weekend drive pleasant. While the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a good vehicle, its low resale and aging platform work against it in this comparison.
