The 2018 Toyota C-HR will start at $22,500 when it goes on sale next month and come loaded with plenty of premium content, including adaptive cruise control.
The subcompact crossover’s trim walk will be short and sweet, with only two models to choose from. The base XLE version comes with a sticker price of $22,500, while the XLE Premium will cost $24,350. Destination adds $960 to the invoice regardless of trim.
It’s somewhat of a pricey proposition for the C-HR, which competes against the likes of the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3, both of which start at less than $20,000. The Toyota is, however, at an advantage when it comes to standard equipment, with active safety features like adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking.
Part of the standard Toyota Safety Sense Plus suite, those features are joined by a lane departure warning system that includes mild steering assist, pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. It’s a robust suite to be sure, and one that isn’t available on the HR-V or CX-3.
Other standard features on the Toyota C-HR include dual-zone climate control, a rearview camera, seven-inch touchscreen infotainment display, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Powering the compact crossover is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 144 horsepower and 139 lb-ft of torque. That output is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable automatic transmission. The EPA estimates fuel economy averages of 27 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway.
