Mitsubishi has brought back its Eclipse nameplate, but it’s no longer a sports car.

The newest entry is called the Eclipse Cross and will slot between the Outlander Sport and standard Outlander. It’s a stylish model, featuring a sharply raked rear roofline, joining other coupe-styled SUVs on the market. The compact SUV will take advantage of the brand’s All-Wheel Control system to deliver power to all four wheels from either a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a 2.2-liter diesel engine.

But don’t expect to see the diesel engine offered in the U.S., which means the Eclipse Cross should be offered exclusively with the smaller four-cylinder engine paired to a CVT. Look for the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross to head to dealerships around the world by early 2018.
