Ford’s compact hatch now has a three-cylinder engine under the hood.

But don’t let that fool you into thinking the Ford Fiesta ST has lost its spunk. The new 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine provides 200 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque, making it a formidable replacement to the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine in its predecessor. This is the first time the American automaker has used the three-cylinder engine in a performance car, and it even has cylinder-deactivation technology to shut down one cylinder under light loads. Like before, the Fiesta ST will solely be offered with a six-speed manual transmission.

On the inside, buyers can look forward to Recaro seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel and an updated SYNC3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Look for more information on the North American version of the Ford Fiesta ST to be announced in the coming months.
