2018 Buick Regal Wagon Spotted Testing

With a strong crossover and sedan lineup in place, Buick is looking to add a few more interesting cars to the mix, including this more spacious Regal Wagon.

The car you see in the gallery above was spotted by our Spy Photographers in Europe, where the Buick Regal is known as the Opel Insignia. Across the pond, wagons are a bit more popular, but that didn’t stop GM designers from making this cargo carrying premium car sexy. With all that camouflage in place, you might miss the more recessed rear end, meaning that the Regal Wagon will be described as more of a shooting brake than a traditional station wagon.

The new generation vehicle is supposed to be lighter than the last, which should bode well for this cars handling and efficiency. While the current Regal is offered with a base 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, expect that to be replaced by the 2.5-liter four cylinder engine that’s found throughout the GM lineup. Also expect a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine to be offered as well. We’d be surprised if the six-speed automatic carried over, especially with GM placing eight and nine-speed transmissions in other vehicles.

One important thing to note is that the Regal Wagon is expected to hit our roads with a different, more crossover-like variant, one that is likely to be called the TourX. This model will be like the Audi Allroad, Volvo Cross Country models and the Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain, featuring a lifted suspension setup, blacked out body cladding above the wheel wells and maybe some kind of skid plating.

Look for more information on the debut of the Regal and its different variants some time in the near future. It’s likely to hit our roads in late 2017.
