2018 BMW Z5 Spied Baring More Skin

Spy photographers have caught the next-generation BMW Z5 roadster again, but this time baring a bit more skin.

The 2018 BMW Z5 is one of the most highly anticipated new car debuts of the year and it’s getting closer to production form. Although it is still wearing a lot of camouflage on the front end, the rear of the car can be seen better than ever before. Because some camo has been dropped, we can make out part of the production tail lights for the first time, and also see a new set of squared-off exhaust tips.

Many were hoping the replacement to the Z4 would have taken some retro design cues from the 2002 Hommage Concept that BMW revealed last year, but it appears the Z5 will take on a more traditional roadster design. As a collaboration between BMW and Toyota, the Z5 and the upcoming Supra will share a platform.

Not much else is known about the pair, but BMW is returning to a soft top design instead of the retractable hardtop design used on the last-generation Z4. This was likely a move to keep weight in check.

We can expect the 2018 BMW Z5 to debut in production form at a major international auto show later this year.
