Mazda is finally bringing its diesel engines to the U.S.

Introducing the all-new 2017 Mazda CX-5 crossover at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show, the Japanese automaker confirmed a diesel engine is on its way to the U.S., despite the controversy surrounding Volkswagen’s diesel scandal. Although Mazda didn’t share details on the diesel engine it is bringing, it will likely debut on the new CX-5 before heading to the Mazda6 sedan. For now, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 will launch with a choice of either a 2.0- or 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine. Shoppers will also get to choose between front- and all-wheel drive.

In addition to the new design, the CX-5 also benefits from the company’s new G-Vectoring Control system that uses subtle engine braking to enhance handling. Pricing for the new Mazda CX-5 has not yet been announced, but the model will launch in Japan next February with other markets following later in the year.
