2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Does a Smokey Burnout to Introduce Line Lock

Chevy revealed a new feature included with the 2017 Camaro ZL1 at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed: Line lock.

During the ZL1’s run up the hill, driver and VP of product development for GM, Mark Reuss, stopped the car to show off the new burnout feature. Line lock grabs the front brakes, allowing your rear tires to spin freely, creating a beautiful plume of white tire smoke.

And with 640 horsepower, the Camaro ZL1 has no problems shredding its rear tires. Line lock systems were initially developed for drag racers so they could easily warm up the rear wheels before a race.

Line lock can be activated through the launch control menu when the car is in Track mode and the transmission is either in first gear or in Drive. The driver is then instructed to apply 80 percent brake pressure (a status bar shows how much pressure is applied), then push the gas to floor. Line lock will work for a total of 15 seconds before cutting throttle. The system even has a trick up its sleeve with a rolling burnout that can be activated by pressing both center buttons on the steering wheel pads.

For safety, any steering wheel angle input, the opening of a door, or pressing the gas before the brake is set will cause the parking park to activate.
