Chevrolet is trying to make its non-sporty city car, sporty.

Bowing at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show is the 2017 Chevrolet Spark Activ, boasting unique front and rear fascias, off-road skidplates and revised suspension that raises the compact car’s height by 0.4 inch (10 mm). Yes, in a way, the Spark Activ is like a pint-sized crossover and with a starting price of $16,945 including destination, don’t be surprised if they start selling. Other unique changes to the exterior of the Spark Activ include a specific grille pattern with the Activ nameplate, as well as round fog lights and housings that have been integrated in the front bumper.

2016 L.A. Auto Show Coverage

Under the hood, the same 1.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine as the standard Spark resides, offering 98 horsepower and 94 pound-feet of torque. It will return 30 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway when equipped with a continuously variable transmission.
