The 2017 BMW i3 will officially go 114 miles on a single full charge.

When BMW announced the upgraded BMW i3 earlier this year with a 94 Ah battery, the automaker estimated that it would offer 40 percent more range than the 81 miles from the 2016 model. That estimate seems to be accurate now that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has made it official. The EPA hasn’t rated the BMW i3 with the on-board range extender yet. The new 94 Ah battery has a capacity of 33 kWh, but is the same dimensions as the regular battery thanks to higher energy density.

The 114-mile range is achievable under regular mixed driving conditions with climate control turned on. The 2017 BMW i3 with the 94 Ah battery will take an hour longer to charge compared to the 60 Ah’s 3.5 hours. When using a DC fast charger, an 80-percent charge is possible in about 40 minutes.

In terms of performance, the 2017 BMW i3 remains the same with 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. That results in a 60-mph sprint in 8 seconds, which is slightly slower than the 60 Ah model due to the additional 270 pounds from the new battery.
