Alfa Romeo followed up the 2015 L.A. Auto Show debut of the Giulia sedan with an all-new crossover.
Expected to head to dealerships sometime next year, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio bowed at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show, ready to take on other luxury crossover and SUV models in what’s becoming a crowded segment.
At its core, the Stelvio shares much with the Giulia sedan, including parts of its interior like the flat-bottom steering wheel and climate controls. Powertrain options are also familiar, with the standard model coming with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. Like the Giulia though, the Stelvio will offer a high-performance Quadrifoglio variant sporting a 2.9-liter turbo V6 developed by Ferrari to push out 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.
2016 L.A. Auto Show Coverage
The luxury crossover will come standard with all-wheel drive but will be able to route 60 percent of the engine’s torque to the front wheels for enhanced grip and driving dynamics. Also available will be a torque-vectoring differential. Expect pricing information to be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch.
