AutoAfterWorld.COM — Vehicles affected by service bulletin:
- 2008 Honda Accord
- 2009 Honda Accord
- 2010 Honda Accord
- 2011 Honda Accord
The problem: Under certain operating conditions, the engine may develop deposits on the piston's oil control rings, which may lead to increased oil consumption. Once the oil control rings stick to the pistons as a result of these deposits, oil will run past the rings and into the engine to be burned.
Conditions that can cause deposit buildup include operating the engine while cold (not allowing it to warm up to a proper operating temperature); hard acceleration while the engine is cold; and using fuel with an unusually high concentration of particulate matter.

Corrective action: Dealers will replace all pistons and piston rings as necessary.
Warranty info: This repair is being done free of charge under a special piston and piston ring warranty extension (eight years/125,000 miles, whichever comes first). This warranty extension does not apply to any vehicle ever declared a total loss or with a branded or similar title under any state's law.
